Instructions for use

Treatment of depressive states of various origins in patients with unipolar and bipolar affective disorders. Prevention of recurrent episodes of depression.

Method of administration and dosage

Take 50 mg once daily; if necessary, the dose may be increased to 200 mg daily over a period of several weeks. The effect becomes apparent 7 days after the start of treatment and reaches its peak after 2–3 weeks.

Special instructions and precautions for use

Use with caution in patients with a history of substance abuse or dependence, liver dysfunction, kidney dysfunction, epileptic seizures, or weight loss. Do not use in patients undergoing electroconvulsive therapy. Sertraline should not be administered until at least 14 days after discontinuation of MAO inhibitors. Do not drink alcohol during treatment. Safety in pediatric use has not been established. Effects on the ability to drive and operate machinery During treatment, patients should avoid activities that require increased attention and rapid psychomotor reactions.

Contraindications

Concomitant use with MAO inhibitors; hypersensitivity to sertraline.
